You might still remember Paolo Di Canio famous volley against Wimbeldon in 2000. It was voted as the BBC Goal of the Season, which is still considered among the best goals in Premiership history.

Paolo Di Canio started his glittering Premiership career with Sheffield Wednesday, and was ‘famously’ known for an incident on the pitch in 1998, where he pushed referee Paul Alcock to the ground after being sent off while playing against Arsenal.

He then signed for West Ham and helped them to achieve a high league position (5th) and was voted OPTA Player of the Season.

In 2001, he won FIFA Fair Play Award, for a display of sportsmanship, when he shunned a goal scoring opportunity and caught the ball while Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard (any relations to Stevie G?) was lying injured on the ground. He remained at West Ham until 2003, and when the club was relegated, he signed for Charlton Athletic.

In 2004, he moved back to Lazio, where he played for two seasons before leaving the team in July 2006, and join Cisco Roma of Serie C2 where he is still playing at the age of 39.
