It is Manchester United week !! We just can’t get enough of them after they announced two major signings worth 30 million pounds. Gone are the days when players come cheaper than a million quids unless it’s a free transfer of course. Well, we just wanna share with you though Fergie’s bargain buys that is almost impossible to get nowadays unless you’re Arsene Wenger.
1. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Signed in 1996 for 1.5 million pounds)
Come to think of it, Ole has already been at Old Trafford for more than 10 years, which is a great achievement considering he has spent so much time on the bench and was never considered as a first choice striker. While the likes of Eric Cantona, Andy Cole and Ruud Van Nistelrroy have left Man Utd, Ole has remained loyal and has scored more than 100 goals. In 2001, he was valued at 12 million pounds.
2. Andrei Kanchelskis (Signed in 1991 for 0.65 million pounds)
Not even a million but Andrei Kanchelskis is a natural asset, had fantastic acceleration and great finishing. One of the earlier pacey wingers that was signed by United before Giggs came into the picture. He was sold in 1995 for 5 million pounds.
3. Eric Cantona (Signed in 1992 for 1 million pounds)
An absolute steal. Cantona had just won the Premiership title with Leeds when he was snap up by the Red Devils for 1 million. The rest is history, and Eric Cantona will forever be remembered as the greatest player United ever signed. He retired prematurely but his value could have skyrocket to nearly 20 million pounds.
4. Lee Sharpe (Signed in 1988 for 185,000 pounds)
A wonder boy, Sharpe made the left wing his own and help United win the European Cup Winners’ Cup and also scored a hattrick against Arsenal in the League Cup. Unfortunately, he was sidelined due to injury and illness and lost his place to Ryan Giggs. He was sold for 4.5 million pounds.
5. Peter Schmeichel (Signed in 1991 for 0.5 million pounds)
The buy of the century. One of the greatest goalkeeper in the world and was the key to United success in the Premiership. If Gianluigi Buffon was valued at 33 million, Schmeichel should worth around 35 million pounds. Now that’s a lot for a goalkeeper.

01|Jun|2007 1I would put Eric Cantona and Peter Schmeichel as the top two.
King Cantona was the catalyst that made United a force to be reckoned with in the early days of the EPL.
And Schmeichel is one hell of a ‘keeper. No other can beat his montrosity and control of the box.
Cheers

02|Jun|2007 2I concur with both of you…losing Cantona early was a crime…but Ferguson has also signed some dead-beats. Another post perhaps?

04|Jun|2007 4Well said, brazilian boy.
The AC Milan match was ironic for me, because Seedorf had such a great game and for 10 years I’ve thought United needed him or Edgar David to really rock. To me they’re way above Roy Keane.
