McClaren Owes It To Beckham For Inspired Win

Filed under: Euro 2008, England — Chole @ 1:21 am

p1_england_0606.jpgDavid Beckham contribution proves yet again to be the telling factor of England 3-0 win against Estonia in last night Euro 2008 qualifier in Tallinn. Setting up two goals with his famous swirling crosses which was scored by Peter Crouch and Michael Owen, it is now more evident than before that David Beckham is here to stay for a long time.

Eventhough Estonia was never a threat the whole match, England with the majority possesion that they hold, look like having a tough time breaking a stubborn Estonia’s defence. With Peter Crouch in favoured up front besides Michael Owen, England was predictable with long balls targeting the Liverpool’s striker but for the first half an hour, never look threatening.

An England first goal came out of nothing. A quick throw in (Steven Gerrard was still walking with his back facing goal) was knicked by Crouch before Cole controlled the ball on his chest, at the same time turning past Dimitri Kruglov, before rifling a half volley past Mart Poom.

That goal clearly set up the mood for England in the second half. David Beckham by then had dozens of swirling crosses already and had abundances of space, thanks to Wes Brown constant overlapping on the right, and in our opinion had an excellent game together with Steven Gerrard.

But Beckham class was everywhere to see, when he sets the second and third goal with a bending cross around Estonia’s defenders for Peter Crouch and then Michael Owen to stabbed home.

McClaren must be thankful that his job is safe at least until September when they meet Israel in Wembley. And he owes it all to Beckham, the player he sents into exile, now is his saviour.
