Owen Scored First Newscastle Goal in 19 Months

Filed under: Newcastle United — Chole @ 8:26 am

010278332396400.gifThe England hitman, Michael Owen who last scored for his club in 2005, converted a James Troisi 58 minute cross to claimed a victory at Hartlepool.

However, it was Joey Barton combative effort which was the most significant features, often snapped into tackles and harried opponents as though he is trying to prove something. He and fellow midfielder Nicky Butt combine well in the centre and took command of the game with Obafemi Martins and Kieron Dyer partnering Owen in attack.

For Owen, he must be relief that he is back to scoring goals even though whether he is back to his true form is yet to be seen. With Mark Viduka also found the net twice against Thailand in the Asian Cup, the Owen-Viduka combination will be one of the most deadliest on paper. Together with Obafemi Martins, Newcastle might just have the winning combination that was lacking last season.
