Iraq secure a historic truimph after securing a memorable 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia at the Gelora Bung Karno to win the AFC Asian Cup.

Iraqi skipper, Younis Mahmoud headed his fourth goal of the tournament after capitalising on a poor goalkeeping by Yasser Al Mosailem to turn in Hawar Mohammed’s corner 19 minutes from time, giving the Middle Eastern side their first ever Asian Cup.

Saudi Arabia, heavily favoured and three times champions, had the best strike force of Muaz and Al-Qahtani. However, Iraq midfield and defense were well organized and rarely had troubled from the Saudi Arabia strikers.

In the end, against all odds and in an inspiring moment in sports, Iraq took home their first ever Asian Cup, a reminder to other countries of how true grit and determination can win trophies after all.
