England Same Old Story
Steve McClaren’s side will need all the help they can get if they are to qualify for next summer European Championship. After they lost to Germany, England will host Israel and Russia in must win qualifying games on Sept 8 and Sept 12. And by the look of it, England are not exactly brimming with confidence.
From a blundering goalkeeper to strikers who can’t score, England is in disarray again, but that is not something new.
With or without Wayne Rooney, England’s performance under Steve McClaren all become static. There was no clear tactical strategy nor style of play, midfielders rarely made a tackle, strikers missed easy chances and they defended poorly at times.
While papers lambasted Paul Robinson for the blunder, it is how Germany took control of the game that should be of Steve McClaren concerned. Midfielders Steven Gerrard and Owen Hargreaves should be fit for the next two qualifiers which is important as the strikers - especially Michael Owen missed easy chances.
With so many players missing, it was hard to access England’s performance but for Steve McClaren, he has about 15 days before the Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel to make things right, and anything less than a win may cost him his job.
