Rooney Out Beckham In
Wayne Rooney has been ruled out for a month after injuring his ankle during training yesterday. He will miss Sunday’s clash with Blackburn Rovers and the two remaining matches for Champions League. While Manchester United have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Rooney’s unavailability for England’s friendly with Austria and the ever important Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia is a huge blow for England’s chances and Steve McClaren.
The national boss now faces not only attacking but also defensive crisis with John Terry out through injury and Rio Ferdinand suspended, thus the news of David Beckham being recalled actually add more pressure on McClaren as the midfielder has only recovered from an ankle injury. While many still remember how David Beckham single handedly took England to the 2002 World Cup with that inspirational performance against Greece, a not so fit Beckham would be a liability for England eventhough his experience and big match temperament is now more crucial than ever.
