Who is Chelsea Best Player This Season?
Come to think of it, who is Chelsea best player for the season? Difficult right. When you can name other team best player with ease, Cristiano Ronaldo for Man Utd and Fernando Torres for Liverpool, why it’s so hard to name Chelsea most consistent player? Moreover, they are second in the league, only three points behind the league leaders and are in the Champions League semifinal.
The fact is that, there are no appropriate candidate for Chelsea best player. Joe Cole did play brilliantly but only for a while, Michael Ballack did took command, but only when Lampard was not available and Michael Essien would probably get my vote but he wasn’t consistent.
So, how on earth that Chelsea are in this position? The truth is that Chelsea are so effective in midfield and they play Italian style football that emphasis on defending. In the middle of the park, they play Makelele, Lampard, Ballack, Joe Cole and Essien. All of them except Cole are either holding midfielders or box-to-box midfielders. They are hard runners, great in tackling the ball and control the game well.
Still, they managed to win matches with this team. They played effective football, not beautiful but effective enough to control the game. So, who is your vote for Chelsea best player of the year?

Michael Essien gets my vote, but this season Joe Cole and Petr Cech’s contributions are important too, Lampard is important as always…

I thing Frank Lampard is the best player all in all. His tenacity, command and ability to score makes him my choice! =)

Good point. But sometimes you’ll always forget the defenders. John Terry should also be one of the candidates.

Michael Ballack has to be the best player of the 2008/09 season he was the who took charge of chelsea’s midfield when lampard got injured and then played better than lampard. He took chelsea to the the chempion league final winning the penalty agaisnt liverpool and guided chelsea for the title at the final day of the season with many goals in later stages of the season. I just hope the new manager does not swapm deco for ballack. Why not try deco and ballack with essien the holding role?
