FA Cup Highlights : Man Utd 4-0 Arsenal : Gunners Rip Apart

Filed under: Arsenal, Manchester United, Fa Cup — Chole @ 2:16 am

Watch all the four goals here !! Manchester United demolished Arsenal with both side rested their main players ahead of Tueday’s Champions League clash.

However, Man Utd clearly have the strength in depth with Nani, Anderson, Fletcher and Park Ji Sung in superb form. Wayne Rooney was as indutrial as ever and my man of the match, Nani took centre stage as Cristiano Ronaldo was rested.

See also video reaction from Lyon’s President (if you understand French of course) and enjoy the goals.

FA Cup Highlights : Liverpool 1-2 Barnsley : Upset of the day

Filed under: Liverpool, Fa Cup — Chole @ 7:59 pm

Liverpool suffered a humiliating defeat at Anfield today as a sensational injury time winner from Brian Howard sent Liverpool crashing out of the FA Cup, 1-2 against Barnsley.

Rafael Benitez who must be under huge pressure now, ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Inter Milan left Gerrard, Mascherano, Reina and Torres on the bench and knows that anything less than a win on Tuesday would almost surely cost him his job.

Drogba Strikes Secures FA Cup

Filed under: Chelsea, Manchester United, Fa Cup — Chole @ 5:34 pm

terryliftingfacup184.jpgChelsea won the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley Stadium after a 1-0 extra time victory over Manchester United.

Didier Drogba scored the winning goal of the game with four minutes of extra time remaining after both side could not break the deadlock in normal 90 minutes.

The win completed their domestic double after winning the League Cup earlier in the season, but for Jose Mourinho, it was the only cup that was missing in the cabinet.

Cagey first half

The first half saw both teams played cautiously with neither side committed to attack. Manchester United played Wayne Rooney alone upfront, while Didier Drogba was marked by Vidic tightly.

Where was Ronaldo?

Cristiano Ronaldo did not performed to expectations and was disappointing throughout the whole match. Beside some trickery and a few shots off targets, he rarely tested Paolo Ferriera. In contrast, Rooney was tremendous, bursting from box to box, pushing it to the absolute maximum.

Drogba’s finish

But it was harsh luck on United, who were marginally the better side, but the excellence of Drogba’s finish, after playing a one-two with Frank Lampard, was beyond debate.

And Jose Mourinho must be thinking that after winning two domestic cups, the season did not end that bad after all.

FA Cup Ultimate Showcase

Filed under: Chelsea, Manchester United, Fa Cup — Chole @ 5:10 pm

thefinal_h.jpg Wembley Stadium will witness Manchester United take on Chelsea in the biggest grudge match of the season on Saturday, when England’s new champions face the deposed rulers in the FA Cup final.

The stage could not have been better set as United and Chelsea’s rivalry has dominated the domestic season and for it to come to a head in the FA Cup is a dream final for soccer fans.

The Stats

Not that it has any bearing in this match, but Chelsea only victory against United in an FA Cup match was way back in 1950, where United were beaten 2-0 in a quarter-final match. The last time they met in the final was in 1994, when United completed a Double by thrashing Chelsea 4-0.

Who are better prepared

For United, it is a chance to bring the once mighty Chelsea fully to their knees, after already taken the Premiership title last week. They are full of confidence and would want to put a big marker down for next season. Chelsea, on the other hand, will have to do so with another makeshift side as Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko and Ricardo Carvalho are all out. The fact that they drew the last five matches means that they are struggling to beat their opponents.

Where the match may be won

Centre of midfield has always been Chelsea’s strength, but with Michael Essien shifted to centre back and Ballack injured, Claude Makelele has to be at his best to stop Scholes and Carrick from controlling the game.

Chelsea will also rely heavily on Premiership top scorer, Didier Drogba, and it would be exciting to see him up against Vidic and Ferdinand.

But the real battle, would be between Ronaldo and Ashley Cole, where United would be at their most dangerous when breaking from the flanks with both Ronaldo and Giggs deadly in counter attacks. The often reliable Cole would be a stern test for Ronaldo, but it will also open spaces for Rooney and Scholes to capitalise.

Whatever the lineup or formation tommorrow, it will be one match that you shouldn’t miss. If you are a real soccer fan, this is the game of the season……

Ballack Fires Chelsea To Final

Filed under: Chelsea, Fa Cup, Blackburn — Chole @ 10:51 pm

ballacke412.jpg

Michael Ballack’s stunning goal deep in the second half of extra time gave Chelsea a 2-1 win against Blackburn in an enthralling FA Cup semifinal at Old Trafford.

Jason Robert’s 63rd minute goal forced the extra time after he had equalised Frank Lampard’s first half opener.

And with a Barclays Premiership clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on May 9, the FA Cup Final 10 days later and a possible Champions League showdown in Athens following straight on from that, England’s top two are set to grind each other to a standstill.

United in the FA Cup Final

Filed under: Manchester United, Fa Cup, Watford — Chole @ 11:56 pm

rooncron.jpg

Manchester United hunt for their second treble is on course when they humbled Watford 4-1 to book their date at the new Wembley Stadium on May 19.

Wayne Rooney was the Man of the Match, scoring two goals while Cristiano Ronaldo and Keiran Richardson scored one apiece. Watford goal came from Hameur Bouazza deflected volley.

Yet amid the celebrations of an eighth final appearance under Ferguson, and the prospect of a mouth watering  clash with Chelsea, the concerns in the United camp were obvious following the loss of Rio Ferdinand to a groin injury.

At such crucial stage of their treble bid and with so many of their defenders sidelined with long term injury problems (O’Shea, Vidic, Silvestre and Neville), United are facing the biggest test of the season.
